Situated on a steep site at Pretty Beach, on the edge of Bouddi National Park, Heath House is a contemporary coastal residence shaped by landscape, outlook and restraint.

Designed under Fabric Architecture Studio and now part of the Fabric Studio portfolio, the home responds to a challenging bushland setting where ecology, bushfire considerations and topography all played a defining role. Rather than imposing itself on the site, the design works with the natural fall of the land, lifting and stepping the living spaces to preserve a sense of connection with the surrounding environment while opening the home toward the water.

Across multiple levels, the plan balances prospect and privacy. Living spaces are oriented to capture expansive views, while terraces and planted edges soften the building’s form and create a layered transition between interior, architecture and landscape. The result is a home that feels generous and open without losing the intimacy expected of a private family retreat.

Materiality gives Heath House its grounded coastal character. Off-form concrete and natural stone anchor the residence into the hillside, while charred timber cladding and dark vertical screening provide depth, rhythm and a quiet response to the Australian bush. The curving roofline and horizontal balcony forms bring a sense of movement, contrasting the solidity of the structure with a softer architectural expression.
